Commemoration of International Peace Day

As part of the “Right of Peoples to Peace”,International Day of Peace 2014, the Somali Women Development Centre (SWDC), reinforced the values of peace and stability for the protection of human rights in Somalia. Across 3 events, the SWDC encouraged 500 participates including religious elders, camp leaders, disabled persons, women, men, youth and children to share their experiences about war and conflict and their contribution towards peace building and stability.

Thousands of people witnessed the 5th Dropping of the Knife Ceremony held at Niamina Jareng celebrating 30 Circumcisers and 115 communities in the Central River Region South who publicly declared their decision to protect girls from Female Genital Mutilation, early marriage and other forms of gender based violence.

The GREFELS Project: Strengthening Young Women to End Child Marriage in Vélingara, South Senegal

Between January and April 2012, Groupe de Recherche sur les Femmes et les Lois au Sénégal (GREFELS) organised activities for and around Women’s International Day, targeting girls and young leaders on gender, leadership and human rights. The main objective of this celebration was to enhance young girls’ leadership by providing them the chance, for the first time in their lives, to spead directly against authorities on their views on child marriage and CVAW.

All Pakistan Youth Conference 2013

The first All Pakistan Youth Conference organized by SG-WELDD brought together young women and men from 38 youth groups from 11 districts across Pakistan’s four provinces. Coming together, the youth constructed a dialogue through participatory group work; shared experiences of working on various social issues and in particular how this impacts on women. They also shared the challenges that they faced in attaining their goals, as well as their future plans.
