Training for women’s rights leaders
Rights & Democracy, in collaboration with the Shirkat Gah Women’s Resource Centre and WLUML is holding a training for women’s rights leaders in December 2004 in Pakistan.
The trainings aim to provide the necessary resources to Afghan women’s civil society to effectively engage in peacebuilding and women’s human rights work.
Workshop I: Conceptualizing Women’s Human Rights
December 2004
The aim of this interactive, participant-focused workshop is to broaden participants’ understanding of the concept of women’s human rights from various perspectives and to begin looking at potential tools for change in addressing violations of women’s human rights at all levels (local, national, international), such as investigating and documenting violations, and using legal mechanisms. Participants will have the opportunity to network, share ideas, exchange strategies and coordinate initiatives with women leaders from the region and from other areas of their own country. Upon completion of the training, participants will be capable of extending their training to colleagues locally and will have a set of popular education techniques at their disposal. A manual and other resources will be provided to all participants.
Workshop II: Capacity-building for Women’s Civil Society
April 2005
This workshop will bring together highly-qualified trainers with expertise in specific areas of women’s NGO capacity-building, including: knowledge management, professional development, accessing resources, outreach and publicity, sustaining growth, fundraising, networking, communications, results-based management, internal structure and evaluation. Participants will have a follow-up opportunity to continue building cooperative alliances among women leaders from the region. There will be an emphasis on team-building, and on obtaining and distributing women’s rights resources in local languages and organizers will aim to meet the resource needs of participating organizations.
Ø Applicants from Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan and Uzbekistan are eligible;
Ø Rights & Democracy will provide travel bursaries and accommodation for participants coming from outside major urban areas;
Ø Space is limited to a maximum of 30 participants;
Ø All participants must be available to come to both trainings, in December 2004 and April 2005;
Ø Translation services will be available for participants speaking a language other than Dari or English;
Ø Deadline for applications is October 30, 2004.
