International roundtable: Building feminist leadership capacity

The Building Feminist Leadership Roundtable (May 21-22, 2014, Kandy, Sri Lanka) was organised by WELDD, a four-year project (2012-2015) jointly implemented by Shirkat Gah – Women’s Resource Centre (SG), the Institute for Women’s Empowerment (IWE) and the international solidarity network, Women Living Under Muslim Laws (WLUML). In 2014, WELDD was working in partnership with some 50 local partners in Asia, Africa and the Middle East and engaging activists in 20 countries, almost double the originally envisaged 12.

RIWPS Afghanistan: Training on Women’s Rights from Islamic Perspective

In 2014, the Institute for Women’s Peace and Security (RIWPS) in Afghanistan, in conjunction with WLUML-WELDD, conducted trainings and workshops on women’s rights from an Islamic perspective. The main emphasis of this training was a handbook, written in the regional language of Farsi, that was used in these seminars to educate participants on stoning, honour killing, flogging, forced marriage and other form of culturally-justified violence against women.

Child, Early and Forced Marriage: A Multi-Country Study

In 2012 WLUML conducted a study to inform the activities of the WELDD projects against forced marriage in Afghanistan, Iran, Nigeria, Pakistan, Senegal, and Sudan. The study was then documented in this report which was submitted to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) for its report on preventing and eliminating child, early and forced marriage.

Post-2015 Advocacy Toolkit

Girls Not Brides have created this toolkit because we are at a critical time in the discussions on the next set of global development goals. Child, early and forced marriage and the needs of adolescent girls were notably missing from the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which directly hindered the achievement of six of the eight MDGs. We must act now to ensure that child, early and forced marriage is included in the new development framework.
